Drugstore Dupe? My New Must Have!

Hello… Yes, I’m a skincare junkie!  And if you are a member of the “Over 50” club, then I am probably not alone when I made that statement.  I am always on the hunt for a product that claims it’s going to help me look and feel my absolute best.

I was strolling through Sephora a while back, and I asked for a sample of the Boscia Exfoliating Peel Gel, it retails for $34.  I use Retin-A three days a week, so I do occasionally get flaky skin, so when I saw this, I thought I would give it a whirl.  I really enjoyed it.  It took the dry flaky skin off and left my skin feeling soft and flake free.  But, at $34 I wasn’t jumping in the car and running to Sephora anytime soon.

I am not sure how it happened, but I found myself in Target, and of course, I can’t leave without a quick peek into the cosmetic section.  It’s like a force from somewhere I can’t explain,  that just pulls the cart and my body to the right as I walk in.  The elf section was packed with skincare, either I have never noticed it, or my Target never carried it before, but I saw that they had a “Gentle Peeling Exfoliant”, for $10!!  How could I not try this??  Let’s get real, I was sipping on a coffee from Starbucks that cost just about the same, so in the basket, it went.

I couldn’t wait to use this!  According to the directions, you apply to clean, dry skin, rubbing gently in a circular motion, rinse with warm water and your dead skin cells are supposed to instantly peel off!  So, after removing my makeup, cleansing and drying my face I was ready to see if this possibly could be a dupe for the $34 Boscia Peeling Gel.

One and a half pumps is all I used to do my entire face.

OMG!  Look at that!  I know it looks gross, but it’s sorta like when you pop a pimple, it’s gross, but you like it.  Yea, I am totally into this.  I was amazed.  My skin looked so much brighter, cleaner, and felt so smooth, EXACTLY as it did with the Boscia product. A dupe??? I’m gonna say so!  I followed it with a swipe of my favorite alcohol-free toner and continued with my regular night-time regimen.  I have been using it about twice a week, and I love the way my skin looks and feels.

Not all skincare has to cost hundreds of dollars.  Sometimes you find hidden gems in the drugstore that actually work.  Some of the best things you can do for your skin cost pennies; eat right, sleep, drink lots of water and wear sunscreen.

Please share if you have any inexpensive must haves, I’d love to hear about them. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by.  See ya next time!

What’s In My Shower? – My Drugstore Essentials

I admit it, I’m nosey.  I love hearing about products that my friends are using, and I love sharing with each other any tips, secrets, or a great bargain we may happen to stumble across.  The other day I was removing the cap off of my shower gel, banging it into the palm of my hand, trying to squeeze out one more day—yep, it was time to head to the store!  So, what’s in my shower?

These products are nothing fancy, they can all be found at your local drugstore or grocery store.  I use all of them just about every day and find myself repurchasing over and over.

I love this CeraVe Cleanser.  It’s a gentle, creamy formula. It contains Hyaluronic Acid, so it will help to retain moisture, and it doesn’t clog your pores.   I always remove my makeup first and use this as my second cleanse in the evening, in the morning, I use it on its own in the shower.

This Aveeno Positively Radiant 60-second in-shower facial wash is great.  I use this about two to three times a week as an exfoliator. I love the way my face looks and feels after using this. It appears brighter and less tired looking.

This sugar scrub smells AMAZING.  I love using this before I self-tan, I’ll take a large scoop with my exfoliator glove and scrub, a crucial step when self-tanning!   When I am not self-tanning,  I use it before shaving my legs, and as an all-over body exfoliator. It leaves your skin so smooth.  I have tried most of the scents from Tree Hut, this one by far is my favorite.

This is only the second time I have repurchased this Raw Sugar body wash.  I’m really not loyal to one particular brand.  This smells really nice, and it is not drying, plus, I had a coupon and it was on sale, so it made its way into my basket. :). I found this at Target.

This Cremo shaving cream is one product that I will never be without.  I owe this one to my daughter Monica, she claimed it to be “life changing”, and I think I have to agree.  It’s in the men’s section, along with the razor I use.  For some reason, I feel men’s shaving products are better.  I don’t need my legs to smell like raspberries or flowers for the 5 minutes that I am shaving, I want a close smooth shave—and this delivers.  Trust me.  They do make mango and lavender scents for women, for about $2.00 more, save your money, it’s all the same!

Feminine wash, yes ladies, we may not like to admit it, but as we get older, perhaps going through menopause, or it may just be your special time of the month, our lady parts sometimes need a little extra attention.  Regular body wash can be drying or harsh on sensitive skin.  This wash by Sweet Spot just makes ya feel “fresher”, I buy this at Target.  Sorry, Dad, I know you are reading this and that was probably awkward. 😉

The finale.  I lather this in-shower lotion all over and let it soak in as I run the pumice stone over my heals.  After rinsing,  your skin is so soft.  It’s so hydrating, I have occasionally skipped putting lotion on after getting out of the shower.

There ya have it.  Leave me a comment if there is something you love using in the shower that I just may have to go run out and try!

Thanks for stopping by.  See ya next time & Stay Clean! XO

YEA, I SHAVE MY FACE — WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL?

About 15 years ago, I remember having a conversation with a friend over lunch, how her hairdresser told her she needed to remove the peach fuzz from her face.  She was horrified, confused and embarrassed, needless to say, she never returned to that salon again.   I recall laughing to myself, thinking, geez, I hope when I get to be her age I don’t have to “shave my face”.

Well, fast forward to 2016.  I can picture the moment in my mind as if it were yesterday.  As I was stopped at a red light, the sun was shining directly in my face, I pulled down the visor to check my teeth of any blueberry pieces, and HOLY SHIT, I had a full face of peach fuzz!  Now I have to shave my fu***ng face!  This is what I get for laughing at her 15 years ago!

Now, I didn’t run home and lather up my face with Barbasol and go to town with my Gillette.  I remember watching just about every YouTube video out there on face shaving.  I did a little research and decided to purchase a pack of 3 small eyebrow and facial razors.  You can find them at Sally’s Beauty Supply, Walmart, Target or any drugstore.

I was nervous at first, but let me assure you, it was the best thing I ever did. Now,  if you’re comfortable with your fuzz, keep it sista, embrace your fuzzy face, but for me, it was something I was willing to try, I was willing to develop a relationship with my razor.  I bet you are wondering, why would you want to remove the hair from your face?  Why not?

It’s a great way to exfoliate.  In addition to removing the hair, you’re also getting rid of those dead skin cells that can give your skin a dull, lackluster appearance.  It’s like a really tame version of a dermaplaning procedure you would get in a salon.

Your toner, serums, and moisturizers will penetrate and absorb better. Going with the whole anti-aging thing— I’ll take whatever help I can get.

Your foundation looks smoother and applies so much easier, and gives you a nicer finish.

Your face will feel as smooth as a baby’s bottom.  Well, maybe not that smooth, but I can sure notice a difference.

Recently I was at CVS and purchased this Flawless Finishing Touch shaver.   It’s a completely painless, battery operated shaver.  I was worried at first it was going to rip the hair out or feel like an upper lip wax when your eyes start to water and you want to sneeze.  It’s definitely not like that at all, you actually don’t feel a thing.

I remember telling my mother that I shave my face, she then explained to me that my hair was going to grow back dark and thick.  For real Mother?  NO, I did not grow a beard, it came back in the same way it left, peach fuzz, at least this was my experience.

I can’t decide if I prefer the tiny razor or the battery Flawless Finish razor. Both achieve the same results and are so easy.  It has become part of my routine that I do once every week or two.

I wouldn’t recommend this if you have any active acne breakouts or extremely sensitive skin.  Do your research first.  This may not be something that is noticeable to others, but in my little world, I notice.   I love the feeling of smooth skin, and when I touch my face, it makes me happy!

Let me know if this is something that you’ve tried.

Thanks for stopping by. See ya next time, and stay smooth! XO

What’s in my Travel Makeup Bag?

It’s travel season.  If you’re anything like me, packing a travel makeup bag can be a daunting task.

I want to keep things to a minimum, but on the other hand, we want to look good and have choices. Ugh!

Tomorrow we leave on a family cruise.  Realizing that cruise ship staterooms are limited on space, and most of my time will be spent by the pool, I am trying desperately to only pack the basics.

I think I’ve done pretty well. Grabbing mostly drugstore items, and a few multi-purpose brushes, my travel bag is complete!

These are products I actually reach for on a daily basis, and I’ll explain why I enjoy them so much.

L’OREAL TRUE MATCH LUMI GLOTION – I have been living in this all summer long. It has taken the place of foundation on most days since it has a slight tint to it.   When used under foundation, it gives such a beautiful glow from within.  I am in the shade 903-Medium.

NEUTROGENA HYDRO-BOOST FOUNDATION – For a drugstore foundation this is awesome.  It is sheer to medium coverage and is extremely hydrating. It contains hyaluronic acid and claims to moisturize and plump for 24 hours. The shade I use is  40-nude. I think I’m actually gonna run to CVS and get a shade darker, assuming I will be getting some sun and want my face to match my body.

MILANI MOST LOVED MATTES Eyeshadow Palette – I love this palette.  It contains 12 really good size shadows.  The shadows are creamy and blend well, there is a little bit of fallout, but for under $15 Milani killed it!

MILANI POWDER BLUSH – Color 08 Tea Rose.  Again, Milani brings it home.  I love this color for summer.  It gives such a natural pink to the cheeks. It’s so girly.

PHYSICIANS FORMULA BUTTER BRONZER – Best bronzer hands down.  I have ditched my Too Faced Chocolate bronzer and my Tarte bronzer for this one.  It also smells like coconut/suntan lotion, perfect for vacay!

PHYSICIANS FORMULA EYE BOOSTER EYELINER – Color is Deep Brown.  This has a very fine tip, works well if you want to slay a wing.

BENEFIT KA-BROW Brow Gel – Color is 3. This is compact and has the brush built-in, perfect for travel.

NYX WONDER STICK – I love products that perform double duty. One side is a highlighter, and the other is a contour stick.  The highlighter stick is perfect for a quick swipe down the nose, and I also put some above my eyebrows, to give the illusion of a little “lift”.

L’OREAL VOLUMINOUS LASH PARADISE Mascara – This is a dupe for the Better Than Sex Mascara, only better.  It tends to dry up fast once it’s open, that’s why I always have a backup handy.

MAC UPWARD LASH Mascara – I like this because the wand is tiny.  When putting mascara on my lower lashes, this is perfect.

And of course, I always have on my favorite lip combo, Jennifer’s Nude by L’OREAL, topped with Revlon Sky Pink gloss.

There ya have it.  My travel makeup bag. It may seem like a lot to some people, but for me, it works, I can put on a full face in about 15 minutes.  I’m on vacation with my family, I don’t want to be in front of a mirror for hours doing hair and makeup, let’s keep it real.

Tell me beauties, what’s in your travel makeup bag?

Thanks for stopping by.  See ya next time! XO

Cacay Oil- Miracle in a Bottle?

Hi, my name is Joelle and I have a problem.  I’m addicted to skin care.  That’s not such a bad thing, right?  I am a sucker for anything anti-aging, and when I do find something that I feel is working and is not depleting my pocketbook, I want to share.  I am obsessed with Cacay Oil.  To be honest, the results have blown me away.

I’ve been hearing about Cacay Oil for a little over a year now.  I finally purchased my first bottle back in January, and I just ordered my third bottle last week.  I will never be without this powerhouse, it is now a staple in my arsenal of anti-aging products.

What is Cacay Oil?  Cacay OIl comes from the nut of a Cacay plant that grows wild in the Columbian Amazon.  It has many anti-aging benefits that help improve your skin, and it is 100%  natural.

This post contains an affiliate link.

Why is Cacay Oil so awesome?

According to the Cacay Naturals Website:

  • Cacay Naturals oil is an anti-aging 100% natural and 100% organic cold pressed with clinical studies that prove its effectiveness. It contains 50% more vitamin E and twice the amount of Linoleic Acid than Argan Oil. It also has 3 times more Retinol than Rose Hip Oil.

We all know that Retin A (vitamin A) is the Big Daddy of anti-aging.  If you are unable to use Retin A, a prescription strength Vitamin A, then Cacay Oil is the way to go.  Some people find Retin A a little harsh to tolerate.

Linoleic Acid helps retain moisture and has anti-inflammatory benefits.

If you have oily skin and tend to shy away from facial oils, don’t.  Cacay Oil is almost like a dry oil.  It absorbs quickly into the skin.  I apply as part of my evening routine on nights that I am not using Retin A.  I apply it down my neck and chest area, and I also, add a dropper full to my hands and run my fingers through my hair.

When I wake up I notice my skin looks and feels hydrated.  Cacay oil has improved the texture of my skin, and I definitely have seen a decrease in my crows feet.  This is the only thing I have added to my skin care routine lately, and I can tell you, I get more compliments on my skin now,  than I ever have, I truly believe this is why.

Always, ALWAYS, apply sunscreen every day! Especially when using any type of retinol product. You certainly don’t want to burn that beautiful face!

Let me know if you use Cacay Oil, and if not… ya gonna give it a try?

Thanks for stopping by.  See ya next time! XO
